Metropolitan continues winning streak at international graphic arts competitions

Vancouver, BC — Metropolitan Fine Printers is once again bringing home gold, thanks to another formidable showing at the graphic arts industry’s most respected award competitions. Ranked among the world’s top-winning printers, the company this year received 81 International Association of Printing House Craftsmen awards; 38 Printing Industry of America Premier Print awards, including three coveted Benjamin Franklin “Benny” awards; 24 Gold Ink awards; and 19 Applied Arts awards.
2006 International Association of Printing House Craftsmen (IAPHC) Awards
Now in their 32nd year, the IAPHC awards celebrate outstanding achievement in the art and science of printing and related graphic arts. Winning entries are featured in the International Gallery of Superb Printing.
- In 2006, Metropolitan received 81 awards: 40 gold; 29 silver; 11 bronze; and 1 honourable mention
- Metropolitan won the most awards of members in Canada and in the Vancouver chapter
2006 Printing Industry of America (PIA) Premier Print Awards
Now in its 57th year, the PIA is the industry’s oldest and largest international graphic arts competition. Amongst its many honours, Metropolitan was recognized for receiving the most awards of any commercial printer of its size worldwide.
- In 2006, Metropolitan garnered 38 awards: 3 Bennys; 14 Awards of Recognition; and 21 Certificates of Merit
- Met’s 2006 Bennys, which are given for the best entry in a category, were awarded for these projects:
- The “W” Woodwards brochure – Booklet or Brochure series
- Commonwealth annual report – Business & Annual Reports, 4 or more colors
- Beach Villas sales kit – Invitations, 4 or more colors & flyers category
- For the fifth year in a row, Metropolitan ranked among the top five printers worldwide
- In its 18 years of PIA participation, Met has won more Bennys than any other Canadian printer: 21 in total
- In 2006, more than 5500 entries from 18 countries competed in 98 categories
2006 Gold Ink Awards
This competition celebrates the achievements of North American creators and producers of printed material. Winners are awarded for quality of printing and colour, technical difficulty and overall visual effect.
- In 2006, Metropolitan received 24 awards: 1 gold (top honours); 2 bronze; and 21 pewter
- The 19th annual competition’s winners were chosen from more than 1,500 submissions in 50 categories
2006 Applied Arts Awards
The annual Canadian competition, now in its 15th year, selects winners on creative merit and technical execution.
- Metropolitan had 19 wins, images of which will appear in the January 2007 issue of Applied Arts magazine.
“These awards are testimony to the talent, creativity and craftsmanship of the team behind each Met project: our employees, our clients and the other graphic arts specialists with whom we collaborate,” said Metropolitan President George Kallas. “We’re thrilled to see our efforts honoured by our peers.”
