Centered in the HSBC Pendulum Gallery; GDC/BC Graphic Designers, Architects, Engineers, Schools and Ethical businesses gathered to raise food and awareness for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. “This is one of the largest injections of food that we get each year.” Says Doug Aason, Director of Community Investment for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. “In fact, we always look forward to a tremendous increased amount of protein in the form of Tuna and Salmon since they make such great pixels.”

This years theme of “Vancouver” was presented by a wide range of iconic images from Fluor’s rotating Umbrella Skyline of Vancouver, Levelton Consulting’s amazing Eagle Cam and Perkins+Will / MET Fine Printers Chinese Dragon in the Four Seasons Gallery. The event is open to the public for FREE Monday March 26th through to April 4th 9:30 am – 5pm. Bring your family down, enjoy the creativity, do your good deed for the day, have a little fun. …. ok, Barry, nice job of supervising.

MET Fine Printers recently acquired more cutting edge UV ink technology. The NEW SUN MX12 Ink Dispenser enables MET to reduce the amount of inks ordered per project, give more accurate color match and reduce our environmental impact as the entire program is completely recycled from canisters to lids. It is virtually an ink vending machine that is programmed to provide impeccable color match capability and store all client preferences for specialty colors to an accuracy of 3 decimal spaces.
“This is an amazing machine, the color match on special Pantone colors is uncanny. We have already noticed our time for approvals have dropped and we are running faster and more consistently.” comments MET COO, Mike Winteringham. “We immediately use less ink as we don’t need to over-compensate, if we run low, we simply make a bit more on the fly.”

MET UV Inks are polymer based inks that cure instantly upon exposure to a short burst of Ultra Violet light, releasing ZERO harmful VOC’s into the atmosphere. UV or light activated inks, effectively lay down wet on dry to yield unparalleled color and fidelity especially on Un-Coated papers and provide amazing Gloss to Matt ratio’s on Coated papers. It requires less physical space, no dry time and is not subject to the issues that Vegetable/Soya/Oil Based inks struggle with such as “dry back”, “chemical gas ghosting” and long drying times.MX12

MET Fine Printers has long held the belief that Sustainability is more than simply doing the right thing for our shared environment. It covers a wide gamut from the obvious physical efforts required in manufacturing to cut back on our carbon footprint, recycle, reuse and reclaim to how to sustain our communities.

This is the time of year we focus our collaborative efforts on our Canstruction Vancouver project founded by MET Chairman George Kallas. A curious and creative design/build competition pitting corporate teams, schools and students together to create magical sculptures out of canned food. This is the 10th year for Vancouver and we can’t be more excited. To date we have raised 1,056,000 cans of food, the single largest injection of food (largely protein) into the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society each year.

We are supported by an amazing cast of sponsors including; FortisBC, The Vancouver Sun, CKNW98, Global TV, HSBC, Ritchie Bros. to name but a few. See our website at www.canstructionvancouver.com (powered by MET Resource by the way…) to get the full cast of characters.

Be sure to come down and support Canstruction Vancouver; anchored in the HSBC Pendulum Art Gallery 885 W. Georgia St, moving through a total of 5 venues strolling along W. Georgia St. with 20 sculptures.

Our goal is to generate as much traffic as we can in order to give the Greater Vancouver Food Bank more opportunity for on site donations. We invite you to join our Corporate Tin Cup Challenge sponsored by HSBC where your company can send a group of builders down for a lunch time challenge and great team building event. Vote for your favorite sculpture with The Vancouver SUN’s Peoples Choice Award during the event. Come and celebrate at the Ritchie Bros. Candemonium event Wednesday March 28th where we discover the winners of the local and international Canstruction award categories, bid on some spectacular auction items and enjoy a preview of the upcoming CircusWest show BlueSky.

Help us sustain our population with nourishing food and a healthy dose of philanthropy on everyone’s part. Business can do their job, or they can do them right.
